Style stalking

A few days ago me and my painfully adorable and well-dressed friend Heather went out into our minimal city centre to find people with awesome style to photograph. There wasn't nearly enough people around at all so we didn't do as well as we'd hoped we would. We have plans to go out and try again though! You may get to see the results too, keep an eye out...

Heather wears:
coat - her grandma
pleated skirt - Savemart
chiffon blouse - thrifted
sweater - thrifted
sandals - Trade Me
silver leather bag - from her childhood

wearing:
velvet dress - thrifted
wooden rosary necklace - Vast Interior
tights - Farmers
platform sandals - Number One Shoes
Also today I ordered a pair of black suede Demonia creepers like these and I'm so excited for them to arrive in the post! Not sure exactly how they will work with my wardrobe of vintage dresses but I like them too much not to own a pair! Being 2 inches taller, still being comfortable, and looking badass at the same time? I'm down!

Blogger picnic!

So recently as Ayesha and I continued to run into each other over bottles of gin at parties all over the place, and my departure date loomed closer, we decided to arrange a little blogger get-together, featuring lots of wine and delicious food and sunshine. I'm so happy with how it all came together, I feel very lucky to have met such awesome ladies through the blogosphere.

Left to right we have Helga, Christie, Camelia, Laurel, and Ayesha.

I'm wearing a thrifted burgundy 70s chiffon dress and Goldenponies shoes, and Christie is wearing a 1960s daisy-print vintage dress and Chuck Taylors.

It was hilarious talking about the ins-and-outs of blogging and selling vintage with everyone. We discussed the weird things that people search to get onto our blogs- one of the top ones for The Velvettes is 'schoolgirl', which is a tad creepy. Ayesha said her number one by far was 'floral crown', unsurprisingly.

My new glittery Goldenponies oxfords! I adore these because the glitter is in shades of pink, red, blue, purple and silver mostly, so they go with everything in my wardrobe. I am tempted to just put them on a shelf and admire them, but they are so comfy and wonderful that I've worn them every day since I arrived. This is my second pair of Goldenponies shoes, my others being brown oxfords in the same style, and I am super happy with them. They fit beautifully and Erandi was excellent with keeping me up to date with the progress of my order. I've got my eye on oxfords in more colours too- lilac, anyone?

Needless to say, everyone looked amazing and it was such a nice day. We're all from very different backgrounds and span almost 20 years in ages, but our collective love for vintage means I could spin yarns for hours with these ladies. Thanks so much to everyone for coming!

P.S. Any Wellington bloggers want to make this happen across the strait when I move?!

Burgundy

New things, one outfit post minus me.
I love these colours, very wintery but not cold.
The book about rocks, minerals and gems is wonderful and has rusty coloured stains and beautiful illustrations all through it. The platform wedges are great because they make me taller without simultaneously making me topple over.
Spending money on myself never felt so good!

The current snowy ground makes it difficult to get anywhere, but with nowhere to go I am very happy in staying exactly where I am.

Long distance winner

My dream 90s goth boots (also fulfilling my Stevie Nicks 70s platform dreams)! $15 from Retro Funk, mentioned in Georgia's previous post.

I have also been in Oamaru since the day after the earthquake hit, hiding out blissfully from aftershocks and broken buildings and spending my money on the amazing cheap secondhand finds here in this little old town filled with elderly folk.
A few of my finds:

my sister calls this 'the Phoebe skirt' - $2 from Vinnies
I Heart NY t-shirt - New York! (surprise surprise)

THESE AMAZING STARS & STRIPES SHORTS were jeans, $6 from Retro Funk
$10 from Retro Funk. I love the bell sleeves!
Stevie vibes floaty 70s top also from Retro Funk. But wait...
+ matching 70s floaty skirt = dress!

Sorry for not-so-great quality, my camera is still in Christchurch, along with those other people who have lost family, friends, homes and jobs. My thoughts are with you all.

I was on Colombo St, one of the main streets, when it hit. I saw the crushed bus in that photo minutes after it happened, and I saw people under bricks, people trapped in shops. I was very very lucky. It was so surreal, like a dream and I was actually unsure whether it was real, like, 'is this really happening, right now?' But I'm okay and my family are okay and my house is okay and I hope it will get better with time.
Stay strong, Christchurch.

Jelly shoe lovin'

Marc Jacobs created this beautiful fusion of velvet, platform and plastic sandal for the Resort '10 collection which I long for ardently...
also, sandals with socks รก la Tavi Gevinson:

So when I was thrifting a few days ago and found a pair of sparkly, chunky heeled jelly shoes for $2, I got so many awesome nineties teen glitter vibes from them I fell in love!
Later I discovered Georgia had recently bought a pair of pink chunky heeled jelly shoes for $1 and we decided on a jelly shoe dedication post.

The ways to wear (or never to wear, unless you wish to look like a crazy blind old woman/five-year-old, aka me) plastic jelly sandals:

Cheesy teen witch vibes!

Tights from costume store, the dress was thrifted from St Vincent de Paul, the sparkly heart ring was a gift from my little sister, and the moonstone ring I bought via online auction.

More teen witch vibes:
Black velvet and tie-dye + these shoes = eternal happiness!

The velvet peter pan collar dress was thrifted and the hand-dyed socks were a gift.
Girly schoolgirl nun vibes?
Socks - Farmers, cape - handmade by my grandmother, schoolgirl dress - 0$ from free shop, rosary beads - Vast Interior.
and I won't leave out the seventies vibes!
chiffon kimono top - two dollar clothing warehouse
floral velvet skirt - Wild Pair

Every comment is very much appreciated. I wish you all much love and jelly happiness!
