Tuppence a bag

So I'm moving to Wellington in two days, which means I've quit both my jobs and have a lot of free time, in which I should be packing up my entire life. But instead, I'm doing fun things like dragging my brother out to Rangiora to go visit Warren and Vanessa at Two Squirrels for the last time ever.

Their pop-up nest is closing in a fortnight and they're moving their vintage trade online, so it was pretty heartbreaking to visit for the last time. I've been buying from them for 6 or so years, and my first ever proper vintage garment came from them- a pale green paisley shift dress that I bought for myself for Christmas when I was 13. I still wear it on a regular basis. I'm definitely gonna miss being about to visit them at the various incarnations of their shops, but I know I'll be buying from their online store on a very regular basis, and I'm sure they can bring the magic of their personal brand of vintage into the realm of the internet. Most of my favourite garments from my wardrobe come from Tete-a-Tete (their first shop) or Two Squirrels, including this amazing 1950s swimsuit that I wore in a photoshoot with Ruby-Rose in 2008!

This adorable dress I picked up on Saturday is no exception. It's 100% silk, by Rosina Lee, with the most amazing layered collar and pintucked detailing. It makes me feel like an Edwardian child, although without a belt it makes me look like a sack of boobs. Unfortunately a lot of this adorable detail was hidden under my little Clever Nettle coat, as today was rather chilly. Another awesome thing I can do with all this new-found free time is hang out with my best friends and say farewell for now. S0 today Ruby-Rose and I went on a good old-fashioned adventure, which for us means ludicrously impractical clothing and carting around way too many cameras to various trespassed locations. We also indulged in some chips in the earthquake-battered port of Lyttelton, although the seagulls seemed more into them than we were.

Like my necklace? It's one of my mum's teeth. I've found tonnes of awesome junk while cleaning out our family home, and this is no exception. I bleached it for a couple of days to make it super white, then glued on a sterling bail and put it on a long sterling pendant chain. I think it bridges the gap between creepy and stylish quite nicely.

I guess this is the last post I'll ever make from Christchurch! Goodbye quake city, see you later maybe.

6.12.11

As I mentioned in my last post, I had the absolute pleasure of styling a little shoot in the beautiful weather on Saturday for Johanna Macdonald, and I had so much fun doing it. I sort of just stuffed my backpack with misc clothes and it all came together nicely, and Rebecca was so much fun too. She sorta reminds me of Florence Welch crossed with someone from a Mucha print, giving us lots of inspiration for future photo adventures. I love dressing up pretty girls; I wish I could make a career out of it, but I guess every blogger does. Sigh, onto the pictures.

Cartography

Today I last-minute-styled a little photoshoot for Johanna Macdonald, the results of which will be posted here in due time. However, Jo was also kind enough to take some outfit photos for me in my amazing map-print dress made by Ella from my last post.

Amazing right? Jo is so talented, I feel so privileged to get to work with her.

Apologies and photoshoots

Ah! Hi! Things have been so crazy lately that I've sorta fallen off the face of the blogosphere. My apologies! I've been super busy with school and friends and eating and drinking and really enjoying my life properly for the first time in ages, not to mention I just got back from five amazing days in Wellington, with plenty of photos to come. But for now here are some shots by the lovely Johanna Macdonald. She used some clothes from my shop, Georgia Rose Vintage, and she did such a gorgeous job.

All of these are available for sale now!

P.S. How wang is the new blogspot posting layout? Bring back the old one!

Nick DeWolf

I just spent a solid two hours of 'study time' going through Nick DeWolf's photo archives on Flickr. He seems like a cool guy- he had so many adventures, visited so many locations, but still archived the every-day aspects of his home life and job. I could pick a thousand favourites, but here are just a few:

I was considering putting my latest 1960s swimsuit on the 'to sell' pile, but now it's firmly back in my wardrobe after seeing these. On dreary Autumn days like today, all I want is a bit of sun, some pretty dresses and the beach. I'll also admit to have been neglecting my (15-ish) film cameras lately, due to my infatuation with how easy and cheap digital is. I promise to remedy that soon, and dust off my Vilia and get shooting!

I unfortunately only have this one original photo to share with you today. The last week has been rather boring, due to too many essays and assignments that I characteristically let pile up. However, Saturday was beautiful, and my boyfriend and I set off for a 24 km (15 mile) run/bike ride- guess who does what? Haha. Anyway, we stopped for grapefruit iceblocks down by the river that runs past his little farm and he snapped this for me. I miss being out in the country, especially now that the post-quake city has very few merits.

Speaking of the quake: if you, like me, are missing Christchurch's vintage shops, keep the evening of June 1st free. You may be able to snap up a bit of my wardrobe for a tiny price. More details later!

P.S. Sorry if I haven't replied to your comment lately, it's probably because it got deleted in Blog-Gate 2011. Thank you for them all regardless of whether or not they remain!

Developments

I'll be honest with you all and say that my life is pretty devoid of excitement. I got all my partying out of my system with I was 16, and now prefer the life of a nanna. I mostly get my jollies from checking the mail, seeing how my biscuits come out of the oven, and picking up developed films. Today's indulgence was the latter, and the thrill of cycling to the photo shop was a nice change from the monotony of sitting in bed with my cat on my laptop, a.k.a. getting a degree. I had no idea what was on this film, and was pleased to find some summery shots from our trip to Pigeon Bay last year, as well as Campus A Low Hum and hanging out on Anna's roof.

All the wine

My friend Ruby-Rose and I are adventurers of the oddest kind, following funny-sounding street signs and always somehow ending up somewhere beautiful. We have about ten thousand cameras between us, and the results of our journeys are always beautiful. Here are some of my favourites from our 4+ years of adventuring.

I'm sorry for so many miscellaneous photo posts lately! I've been far too busy to take proper outfit photos, so here are some from a rooftop dinner party at my friend Anna's gorgeous flat a few days ago.

Wearing a vintage 60s dress, seamed stockings and no shoes. I was shooting with my Belomo Vilia, my favourite of all my 10 cameras, which was a surprise gift from Logan for my 18th birthday. I took lots more photos, which will be revealed when I get around to getting the films developed! Ever since I got my Olympus DSLR I am struggling to get back into film photography, which is a shame because my digital photos are so crap. I guess I could tack that onto the end of the New Years resolutions!

In other news, I acquired not one, not two, but ten vintage dresses (and a skirt (AND A CAPE!)) over the weekend. All will be revealed later!
